In 1885  Giovan Battista Frugone, a wealthy Genoese merchant, established the G.B. Frugone 1885, with the aim of selecting raw wool and trading it in the northern European and English markets.

Since then, the ownership has passed from the hands of the Frugone family to the hands of the Sobrero family, with the fourth generation of the latter still actively supervising.
